Today is my sister’s last full day with us, and we decided to have a girly day. We went to Kafe for lunch, as we all enjoyed it so much yesterday.
I first went to Kafe on the recommendation of a friend in 2008 and have loved it ever since. On more than one of my trips I have eaten almost every lunch and dinner there, you just can’t go wrong with anything at Kafe. The menu is extensive and it’s very difficult to make a choice as everything is just so good. Catering for all food preferences, and priding themselves on locally harvested and organic produce where possible, the dishes are as healthy as they are tasty. Kafe also has a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability and it shows, from the building made from recycled timber, to food presentation and displays, and the obvious lack of plastic anywhere.
We went back today and again the restaurant was completely full, but we got a lovely spot on the balcony upstairs. We all really loved what we had yesterday, so we all pretty well ordered almost exactly the same again. Prior to this week I have found it hard to go past Meg’s Big Salad Bowl which always leaves me feeling deliciously nourished, but I decided to try something new this week. So today I again had the crunchy beetroot and walnut salad; honey roasted organic beets, feta cheese and walnut with balsamic vinagrette, and once more it was divine! The girls had the same vegetarian burrito as yesterday followed by a roasted pumpkin salad. I am not sure exactly what was in it, but there was much oohing and aaahing as they ate it. Drinks are always beautifully presented and delicious. Today I had the pineapple and passionfruit juice – so good! I always buy a couple of packets of their cashew and raisin cookies as I leave, and they don’t last long, but you have to look for them, they are next to the cash register downstairs. They have a vast range of beautiful desserts and slices on display at the front of the restaurant as well, and anything I have tried is always divine.
We have already decided that we are going back tomorrow for lunch, we just love it so much.
Kafe is about two thirds of the way down JL Hanoman, and in my view, is a must do on any trip to Ubud. Give it a try, I promise you’ll be happy you did.
